Cookie Policy
The cookies we set, what they do and how to control them.
Last updated: August 2026
This policy explains the cookies Maritime Journal uses, what they do, and how you can control them. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal information more generally.
What cookies are
Cookies are small files stored on your device when you visit a website. They let a site remember things between pages and visits — that you are signed in, for example — and let us and our advertising partners measure how the site is used.
The categories we use
Strictly necessary
These make the site work and cannot be switched off. They keep you signed in, remember your cookie choices, and protect forms against abuse. Without them the site cannot function, so they are set without asking for consent.
Analytics
These tell us which articles are read and how people move through the site, so we can commission better journalism. [Name the analytics provider and its cookies, or state that none is used.]
Advertising
Advertising funds our journalism. We use Google Ad Manager to serve and measure advertising. These cookies may be used to limit how often you see the same advertisement, to measure whether a campaign worked, and — depending on your choices — to show you advertising relevant to your interests.
The cookies we set
[Complete this table from an audit of the live site. PECR requires that specific cookies are named rather than described in general terms. Include name, who sets it, purpose and lifetime for every cookie, including those set by Google Ad Manager and by the consent management platform itself.]
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
| wordpress_logged_in_* | This site | Keeps you signed in to your account. | Session, or two weeks if you choose to stay signed in |
| wordpress_sec_* | This site | Secures your signed-in session. | As above |
| [consent cookie name] | This site | Remembers your cookie choices so we do not ask again. | [lifetime] |
| [advertising cookies] | Advertising delivery, frequency capping and measurement. | [lifetime] |
Managing your choices
You can change your cookie preferences at any time using the cookie settings link on this site. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though doing so may stop parts of the site working — you may not be able to stay signed in, for example.
Changes
We update this policy when the cookies we use change. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised.
